Feast with your Eyes!

There is perhaps no more quintessential form of entertaining in Athens than tailgating. Taking place "beyond the hedges" of the beloved Sanford Stadium, this tradition has become much more than a mere sandwich and cold drink leaning against the back of the car. This cookbook takes the reader "Beyond the Hedges" and into the kitchens of Athens, on a culinary journey beginning with those savory Saturdays in autumn and enduring flavors that continue to delight and nourish throughout the year. Packed with 440 recipes, many triple tested, Beyond the Hedges is a kitchen staple for any kitchen!

The Junior League of Athens’ Beyond the Hedges: From Tailgating to Tea Parties cookbook is full of tried and true family recipes that we are sure that you’ll enjoy whether you are having a small gathering or big family dinner. What’s even better is that the sales from this cookbook support an important initiative to feed the children of Athens-Clarke County through the League's signature project: Food 2 Kids. Food 2 Kids provides food bags to elementary and middle school children that are in jeopardy of not having enough to eat over weekends. The program is a cooperative effort between the Junior League of Athens and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia.

As you can imagine, teachers and counselors have remarked about the vast improvement in the concentration and scores of the children who receive these bags.

Over 3,200 food sacks are delivered each school year, but the demand is tremendous and growing. Our hope is to expand the program. Five of the district's 13 elementary schools have more than 90 percent of their students eligible for free or reduced lunch.

Cookbooks can be purchased online.  Donations for Food 2 Kids can be made online also.
